Re: Hyperod's
The top of the rod was just plain aluminum. 1 or 2 wrist pins pressed thru it and it would not hold a wrist pin in location. I would use A LITTLE heat to expand the rod before pressing out.

Re: Hyperod's
Can anyone supply or point me in the right direction to get 2 or 4 of the 12-36 Hyprod Rod Bolts?

Re: Hyperod's
Guys,
Can someone tell me the performance improvement that these rods had over the standard rod?
I have a few of the rods with the inserts, bolts and wrist pins that are from the early 60's according to the person I got them from. I plan to keep them for a display of speed equipment from the early days. I plan to try and explain what the benefits were and any other information I can find out.

Re: Hyperod's
It makes one wonder what the life span of these rods was and how much stretch they suffered on the big revers ?

Re: Hyperod's
Does anyone have any magazine articles advertizing these rods that they could post or e-mail me?
I'm assuming that they will say that the rods will allow higher RPM and increased horsepower. I would guess that both are questionable. I haven't weighed the two different rods and wrist pin assemblies but I would guess that would be the main difference. I would guess that they also claimed increased stuffing and less turbulence in the crankcase.

Re: Hyperod's
I tried the Hyprode rods in my A-open Mc enduro engines and I couldn't see any lap time difference at Willow Springs or Riverside, so I stopped using them. At the time I didn't feel the extra cost got me any performance increase. They required a gasket shaped aluminum spacer on the stuffer to gain enough clearance for the big end. The light wrist pins were great and inexpensive, so I used those in all my open motors. I wish they were still available. Hyprode also made a rod with the cap at at angle. It was supposed to be stronger by altering the loads on the bolts.

Re: Hyperod's
Do not reuse a used aluminum rod unless you don't mind if the intake manifold gets tossed off.
Click on the attached link.
I've never heard anyone claim aluminum rods make more HP. They improve engine acceleration and raise top rpm if the engine has been modified to breathe accordingly. They also reduce the rotating mass weight which improves balance.
Dick, I have a list of Hyprode customers someplace, the one that stands out in my view above all of them is John Hartman who wrote a testimonial letter about Hyprode's products at some point back when.
