I am trying to restore the original look to the aluminum parts on my motors. I don't want to sand blast, glass bead or use an abrasive which may dull the look. Have any of you tried blasting with walnut shells or plastic media? If so what were the results? Open to any tips or ideas. Chris

I do know that trying to de-grease them by soaking in Simple Green or Purple Power type solutions is bad news. Especially on raw or clear anodized aluminum.

Hey, Chris. Find someone who baking soda blasts. I even had the paint soda blasted off my magnesium Homelite with absolutely no harm to the metal. It looks as-cast. It may be hard to find someone who does this. Eastwood sells some fairly inexpensive soda and multi media blasters. Good luck! Ted

I have a dip tank for carbs that do a great job cleaning. Then get it plastic beaded. MAKE SURE they use clean plastic.

I think I use the same stuff Rob uses and it actually is carb dip . I dont know if you can buy the good stuff anymore . I Bought mine from NAPA .

NAPA carb cleaner. They make a quart size for small carbs and a 5 gallon for blocks. Works great nad washes off with water.

I have also tried the carb dip, in a gallon pail, mine is made by Berryman Chemtool and does a good job of degreasing a carb. However, it will not have the new look that I'm after. I have tried an ultrasonic cleaner with a mild detergent, still not what I want. We have a local soda blasting company I will check out tomorrow. Keep the ideas coming guys, I appreciate all the help.

Alumaprep No. 33 cleans aluminum. Aircraft Spruce carries it.
