I just finished building a couple of those. I sold one on eBay and am going to put the other aside for my wife if I can get her in a kart one of these days.

I learned quite a bit about them and have some technical specs and old IKF regulations for that class engine but that is about it. If you want to modify it and have it appear stock there isn't much you can do except for some porting, larger bore and use the Mc49E reed plate which has more intake area. A Tillotson carb with a 1" throttle bore and 7/8" venturi would help out a lot too.

Also I looked high and low for the engine nameplates, called all my sources and could not find an original so I had one designed from a photo and had some made up. They are not an exact copy but did turn out nice. I can provide you with those.

It seems as though a lot of us are restoring Mc49-C's. We all should get together and race around the track with them, maybe bring them to next year's TBO. It would be fun.

There is also a nice brochure on the vintage archives site for the 1970 Mac engines including the 49-C, 91B and 101A Some nice pix of the 49 in that brochure.

The mid-west seems to have started this about 2 years ago. We have a number of 49's at events and the tracks are setting up a class for them. The rules are over 60 years old (I think), single carb 7/8" venturi, no V-12 or V-16 reeds, dry clutch and box muffler. It's not a VKA class but will/should be soon.

My sons raced the 49's at Brodhead as soon as they came out. Fairman even set up a class for duals.

I decided that I may not be able to handle the dual 820's too many more years and thought that this may be fun.

One of my engines will be for display and a spare if necessary but they are pretty bulletproof.

I forgot to mention that the Fenwicks from Louisville and I will be at TBO with our 49's so bring yours and we'll have some fun running together.

I'm thinking that it will be a lot more running and a lot less fixing vs the dual 820's. I'll still be running the 820's and also a single modified 610.
