Margay Concept 1973 ish.

hey john,
definitely a concept.
not rear legal but a nice vintage sidewinder.
looks like an azusa yard kart brake has been added so the original brakes are missing.
the seat is correct but upolstery is missing.
engine swing mount looks like it's there if it's intact thats good.
the motor is all wrong sell that separately , might get fifty or 100 for it.
the starter is worth between 25-100 bucks on esteal.
steering wheel looks right but pix isn't very good.
if the margay star rims are still on the kart some where from 300 -600 would be about right.

I have been wondering about this hang-up on sidewinders, since when I first raced at Broadhead in '69, I had run against sidewinders.
I remember my first race at that track, where I planted my front wheel right into the carb of a Komet powered sidewinder kart,
and felt so bad about it that I went up to the guy after the race, and apologized about my screw-up.
So is this supposed to be period correct ?
If so, then for what years ?
If that is the case, why do I see so many Mac 91B, 92, and 93 engines ?

Inquiry minds (mine, I have several of them) want to know........

What hangup? Sidewinders are Vintage if that is when they were made. This site is a REAR site. That is they only run one event a year for REAR engine racing karts. They do not say other types of karts are not Vintage, they just do not have them at that one event. Just like Fords are not invited to super Chevy events. Hell Rob has several nice sidewinders including a concept. This does not apply to a later sidewinder like late 70s we need a better name for them so people can talk about them and not get in some sort of argument about what is vintage. Seams like most people understand this and only a few just what to argue about nothing. The promoters of the events say what karts and years they want at there event so pick your events for what you like and have fun.

OK, so if I ever find an old fan cooled Yamaha that was pictured in an early '60s kart mag, it would be OK to run in on a rear engine kart, as long as I documented it ?

you know or should know this has been discussed to death several times.
it's Rob's event and no one is forced to go.

currently i only have vintage sidewinders that are runners .
so for TBO i had nothing to bring.
even so ,i've gone to TBO the last two years and had a blast.
i didn't even have a running rear kart to bring last year.
this year i dragged a beater gk800 that never even got onto the track and i still had fun.
that was despite a blown engine a lousy trip through New York city and a loooong drive.

so for the only Rear Engined American rally in the circuit i have nothing but praise.
