I have a 1960 GK 800 with the 10" aluminum steering welded to a 1/2" steering shaft. I'm considering cutting the wheel off the shaft and converting it to a demountable hub. Here's the deal: the kart is 100% original and will this modification devalue it ?

But with 2 1/2 screaming A400 horsepower on it, there is no real need to switch steering wheels. If I were you, I'd just swap the whole kart for a later 800 if you want the other steering wheel setup. Besides, I thought you didn't mount the thottle setup made for the kart because you were going to have to drill a couple of existing holes slightly bigger... hacking the steering wheel off is a bit more extreme than that, eh?

That's what I figured, but I wanted to toss out the idea and see how hard I'd get jumped on. Dean, if I could find a '61 800 in as fine a condition and as original as my '60, I MIGHT consider a swap...............but I've never seen one. Nah, I'll hang on to it and add a '61 to my short list. I may swap out the mighty A-400 for a stock 1300 series AH-58 that I have sitting around. We'll see.

I really enjoyed seeing the pix of your BEAUTIFUL GK 1200. For the life of me, I can't understand why no one hasn't scooped it up yet. Especially at the price you're asking. I'm stuck on the 800, though. Go figure!
