Can anyone tell me what carb came on a WB Rookie 500 and/or what carb(s) will fit and are calibrated so that they work correctly? And does anyone know where I can get (a copy of) a manual and part list? Thanks in advance! Don

Don,
That's a great little engine! We used one for my son's kart the last 4 years with NO problems. Just put fuel in it and GO. Still using the same spark plug we started with 4 years ago!!
The carburetor is a Tillotson H810BX. Tiny carburetor with maybe a 5/8"Venturi and 3/4" throat. Looks a lot like a small Walbro. I'll try to attach a couple pictures here, but if it doesn't work send me an e-mail address.

Hi Terry,
Thanks for the reply and info! It looks like this engine doesn't use a reed block, is that correct? I wish I could find a parts book. I don't know what all they used this engine for but mine is a model 50052 and has a strange end on the PTO with a couple sets of threads. This crank doesn't look like anything I've seen a clutch bolt to. I'm pretty sure I can turn down the large set of threads to match the journal which has a .500" diameter.....assuming I can get a clutch with a .500 ID. The crank will have to be keyed and I'll probably have to make a special nut to hold the clutch on. If I can find some parts sources, I consider replacing this crank with a kart crank. I could also use a recoil starter and what ever bolts to the flywheel. I really don't want to put a ton of money into the engine but I would like to get it where I could put it on one of my karts. I know it wouldn't be period correct but if I could find a matching engine, it looks like 2 would fit nicely on my '61 Dart Roadrunner and be just enough power for my 11 and 13 year olds.
Any other words of advice are greatly appreciated!

Instead of turning the threads off why not make up a sleeve for a 5/8" straight clutch. Put a external keyway in & if the threads are the right direction where it tightens instead of losens I don't see any problem.
Pick up a small engine handbook like this. It has most everything in it. Everyone should own one.

Don,
That engine was rated at 4.25 horsepower @ 7000 rpm according to the literature I have. They made several variations of the engine (chainsaw, kart, ring saw) with different carburetor locations and also PTO configurations. I can send you the literature if you send me an e-mail address.
There is a small 4-petal reed block under the carburetor, you can see the base of it in the pictures I posted.
My engine PTO looked similar to yours except it didn't have the threads closest to the block like your's.
Mine actually had a left hand thread at the end. I had Jim Donovan at Max-Torque make a clutch special to fit the crank, no key was needed because of the left hand thread. I was able to buy a 2 piece mount and also a Reed box muffler from Vince Hughes to fit the engine. He also supplied the West Bend decals.
You occasionally see these little engines on E-Bay and they don't go for a lot of money.
If I can answer any more questions, let me know!
Terry

Is it possible to remove the 90 deg intake & bolt carb right on top of reed cage?
