Who is making the clutch nuts for dry outboard clutches like the Maxtorque or Rev Grip?

I have 4140 pre hard outboard clutch nuts for Rev Grip and vintage Max Torque in left and right hand threads. I gave Bob K some at the Big One 2010 if you want to see them. Send me a PM with what you need.

Sorry I should have been more clear. The large 9/16 nuts so the drum rides on the nut & the sleeve is cut off the clutch.

Rob, I just bought a couple of GR 5 3/8-24 coupling nuts from McMaster Carr. Ron turned them down in five minutes on the lathe. They seem to be fine, for as little as we idle. little Moly Disulfide grease, and voila. Ted

I am using the 9/16 nuts also for outboard set ups now. I have had to cut off 2 outboard clutches last year with properly tightened nuts but they still broke. One was new. I had a few made locally out of 4140 prehard by a great friend. I wanted to use the harder material for needle bearing drums. I cut the tubes off the outboard rev grip spiders and chucked the spiders in the lathe and used a tool post grinder to grind the mating surface flat and square. Proper seating of the nut is important because now the drum is riding on the nut so it needs to be square with the hub. Any decent machine shop should be able to make the 9/16 nuts. Working with the 4140 is tough on tools, especially taps.

Maybe Bob T can make up some 9/16 nuts?

I had these made since I don't have a lathe. My local machine shop has the cutting tools for threading class 3 threads now, so I can see what it would cost to have some made. I actually need one for a Rev Grip clutch for a Margay gear box. The gear box version had a longer bushing than the standard outboard drum. I will be talking with them soon if I don't find my 6" rear go-power wheels. I'll need the shop to machine inserts for 6" go power mini bike wheels. I'll let everybody know what they will cost, but I can see a lot of variety needed - left and right hand thread, max torque and rev grip dimensions, etc.

As far as the Margay gearbox app goes, some guys (Bob Lapke told me of this) run the drum without a bushing. The input shaft fingers center the drum well enough to work fine. I will admit that I have not tried this, but Bob usually runs darn good!
