Plans for rear engine kart

Post by ted johnson » Mon May 16, 2011 12:26 pm

I'm posting this to see if there is interest among the vintage karters in buying a Compact Disc with PDF drawing files, and DXF files included to fabricate a sweet, easy-to-build kart. It is a single rear engine kart I just designed on Pro/Engineer Wildfire 4 CAD to look like a certain commercially available kart from 1964. It has been changed to permit the "LARGER" sized drivers to ride in more comfort than the cramped machines we love and generally drive, though it still has a 41" wheelbase for good handling. It's made of 1" X .083 wall 4130 tubing with the steering hoop of 3/4" X .095 wall. With the seat hoop pushed back, and the steering hoop pushed forward, a floor tank such as a Palmini or Azusa is required. It would use a 150 Tolomatic/Airheart brake with 7.75 diameter disc. The front axle is a K&P Bug Sprint weldment with their spindles and tie rods. The steering shaft is Azusa. The kart is shown with 4" wheels and narrow slicks on all four corners, but 5" wheels would work fine. DXF files are included so that flat parts may be water jet or laser cut. These DXF files do not contain dimensions, nor are they needed. The tubing fabrication and assembly PDF files contain the dimensions needed for tube bending and cutting, and the assembly files are dimensioned. I will not sell less than 10, nor more than 15 of the CD's, so that there won't be too many of the karts out there. The DXF files, and the weldment PDF's for the swing mount will be included. The mount attaches to the frame with a 3/8" male and female rod end, readily available from McMaster Carr. The engine mounts to the swing mount with either a GEM side plate, or a factory West Bend side plate. The spindles, tie rods, axle bearings and hangers are not shown on the JPEG's, as they're purchased items. The jewel pad pan was not on the "1964" kart, and may be omitted if more authenticity is desired. The upholstery is up to the builder. The price of the CD will be $125.00, shipped to you. Any interest out there? If I get 10 committed orders with a deposit, I will make the dimensioned drawing set. That'll take about three weeks. Email me at nosnhojkart@yahoo.com for a couple of JPEG pictures of the assembled CAD model. Thanks! Ted Johnson
