WHO DAT!!!

Post by keith_cutrer » Thu Nov 18, 2010 10:13 pm

Are there any vintage karters in Louisiana, more specifically from the Baton Rouge/ New Orleans area or anywhere else ? If there is where do you go to run your kart ? Can you do it at No Problem Raceway ? I know back in the 60's they used to have a track in Bougalosa I think it's gone now though.

I live in Gonzales and I am in the process of re-building an old Robron A-Bone replica kart. I mostly want it for my kids to enjoy as I had one like it when I was little. It is a shame that there seems to be no vintage karting in the area as I am probably going to repower wtih a Honda GX160. If there was a few people in the area with vintage karts I might would look for a 2 stroke. I was thinking of calling No Problem and inquiring. I also wonder about Lamar Dixon's parking lot during the week(weekends usually have events). I will post a link to my kart project. What do you have ? Let's find a place to start some Vintage karting in the area.

That's what this is about. The big one started with just two of us. It's all about having fun! :)

yeh, that would be good for us in Louisiana if we could do something like that but we don't have any dedicated kart tracks that I can find for at least 2 states to the east of us. It looks like the closest one might be around the Birmingham, Alabama area 6 to 7 hours away. We need to find some kind of way to find out who around here might have vintage karts or even any kind of karts that might want to get together somewhere and run them. I think they run karts on dirt occasionally at Baton Rouge Raceway in Baker but it's not very often and last time I saw one it was kids on yard karts. They opened up a dirt kart track in Watson 3 or 4 years ago but I had heard that the man ran out of money and closed it down before the season was over. Besides it sounds like the people who have the new style full bodied karts and the kart tracks don't want to have much to do with vintage karts as a class maybe because of the noise of the 2 cycle engines. Around here it seems that dirt is king and not asphalt. Someone around here ought to think about building an asphalt track like they have in Barnesville, Ga. it's a road course with an oval built into the design. Perfect for around here. I would think that about $ 500,000 could build something real nice, maybe less than that. I think all you would need is about 10 acres within 2 or 3 miles of the interstate. Boy what a dream.......

Yea, A track would be great, but if we could find a empty parking lot or something I would settle for that as well. I'll keep my eye out. Do you know any other vintage karters in the Baton Rouge area ?

No Kyle I don't know anyone. Wouldn't do any good for me anyway as I don't have a kart yet. I emailed Rob Stanton of Rob Ron karts to get a price on a new Chaparral with disc brakes and duel engine mounts but I haven't heard back from him yet. Gotta wait till after Christmas anyway till I see how much money I spend on the grand baby. Probably be around tax return time anyway, I hope I hear from him before then I know he's busy. I emailed him in March of "09" about one and was going to get one but I had some things pop up that needed the tax money first, and this year also, you know bills before play. I hope it doesn't happen again.
